Wow, good for him! He always looked like a rat-catcher to me.

I thought this was a really funny post, so tried to translate it for Karen - below find my awkward translation, with a note as to how Google translated it:

--
Yesterday night, our red cat Rusty managed to catch and strangle a mouse! It was probably insane, since otherwise why would it go to a house, occupied by two cats.
In any case, our cat was unbelievably happy and proud of himself. I have no idea what came over him - he was jumping at it, and bouncing back, and tossing it up, and catching, and carrying it in its teeth all over the house - and all with an incredible uterine grumbling noise. We barely managed to take it away from him and throw it away, and he still spent awhile afterwards pacing the house with a pensive air, looking for where it might have gone. Indeed, he is a predator.

Just for fun, below is Google's translation of the same blog entry. I used it to help me pick the right words :)

Last night, red cat Rusty managed to catch and strangle a mouse! Probably crazy, what else would she cornered in a house inhabited by two cats. Be that as it may, our red was incredibly happy and proud. Where did that he took - and jumped on it and bounce, and toss and catch, and in the teeth around the house being pulled, all this with some incredible uterine grumbling. Barely and thrown away, so he long shook the house with a pensive air and searching for where she had gone. Predator, though!

Interesting - I had translated "задумчивым видом" as "thoughtful look" at first but then saw that google translated it as "pensive air" - and that's really better. There were several other impressive translation bits in there. The computer translation is getting better and better all the time.

I imagine grumbling was not uterine. :)

Vladimir: my thought exactly! :)

If you are going to complain about google and mine choice of words, then provide a better one :).

Leo, this is the only little criticism of the otherwise perfect translation! And I am curious how to translate "утробное" (definitely not by "uterine"!). This is some peculiar growl coming from deep inside the throat but I don't know a good English word for it.

Given the cat is male, I doubt he has a uterus. And even if he did, I'm pretty sure that's not the part that's grumbling. :)

The russian word "utroba" means stomach, as well as womb. I would say "throaty growl" or maybe "bodily", "internal", or "hungry" to keep it more literal.

I also think people can easily make fun of [whatever] without providing a better alternative. They call such people critics. :)
