xkcd

I am always happy to learn new things from my kids. Here is the latest acquisition (thanks, Katya!): XKCD, A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language. A lot of cultural references are obviously over my head, but there are some things I am able to appreciate, for instance, this one. I wonder though if a Fourier-transformed cat would still say "Meow!" (By the way, you should also read the alternate text that shows up when the cursor is over the strip.)

Да, xkcd — хорошая вещь.
Мне вот этот нравится.

To avf-uk: неплохой, но предсказуемый (за исключением, быть может, альтернативного текста :)).

I like this one, too. Also, this one. (It's sort of a similar theme, in both of them. *g*)

Oh! And here are the pictures of Boston taken with a camera tied to a kite that I told you about. That's part of what I like about this strip -- he doesn't just *talk* about building cool weird machines -- he actually *does* it.

Well, since both of these links seem to be to the same #173, it's not much of a wonder, isn't it :).

Катя, а вот номер 175 это прямо в твой огород! :)

Oops! Sorry about that! This is the comic I meant to link above. (#403, in case the link doesn't work again.)

And you clearly know me too well -- that was one of the strips I considered mentioning, too. ;)

In many of them the alternative text seems to be funnier than the main one. Your #403 is a good example: I like this variation of the Erdos number!

ha! I knew you would like the alternative text on that one! ;)

I think of the alternative text as an important part of the strip. It's not always funnier than the strip, but it always adds something to it.
